There is some thought that the rule forbidding devices during takeoff and landing was made to ensure that passengers paid attention. The F.A.A. has never claimed this. (If this was the case, passengers would not be allowed to have books, magazines or newspapers during takeoff and landing.)

I watched some home movies with my family today.

Some people don't look very different thirty years ago compared to how they look today. Some people look very different.

I have the same amount of fashion sense now that I did back then.

We have a new trash can at our house, and it's so much fun! For a while, I've wanted to have a trash can with a pedal. (I like to be able to throw away trash without touching the trash can with my hands. Yeah, I have a little case of OCD.) Our new trash can has a pedal, and it even "glides" to the closed position after the pedal is released.

I'm so fortunate to have a wife who saw that this trash can was available for much less than I've noticed other trash cans with pedals costing and also let us buy it!

I like magnets (and I spend a lot of time at a desk during the week), so my wife bought me this cool magnetic stand with metal figures that I can stack in different arrangements. (Since they say that a picture is worth a thousand words, I included a picture.)

What is an "Olio Engineer"?

I decided to call my new blog "Olio Engineer".

By Olio, I mean "hodgepodge" or "mixture" (I don't mean any kind of "song/dance" or anything with chick-peas). This blog will likely contain a mix or various topics. I've always had various unrelated hobbies. One post might be about the Bible. The next post might be about politics. The next post might be about my wife and son. Or geography or music.

By Engineer, I don't just refer to my college degree and my profession. Being an engineer is part of who I am. I enjoy optimizing. I like to tinker. I'll take something apart just to see if I can reassemble it. I pay attention to details, and small things sometimes mean much to me. I probably won't write many long post (or post very often) because I try to choose my words carefully.
